The Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here 2024 exhibition is going to be a landmark event in the regional art scene. This year, the exhibition, curated by the esteemed Simon Njami, embraces the theme of “Awakenings.” This concept invites artists to explore the notion of openness, drawing from their unique artistic practices to create visually compelling works that resonate with the theme. Taking place outdoors and under the dome, Art Here 2024 will afford artists the opportunity to present new commissioned artworks within one of the world’s most extraordinary museum settings.
For its fourth edition, Art Here expands its reach beyond the Gulf countries, extending its invitation to artists from North Africa. This geographical expansion reflects Njami’s deep understanding of the region and underscores the museum’s commitment to showcasing a diverse array of artistic voices.
From September 20 to December 15, 2024, the exhibition will feature site-specific monumental works from five talented artists—Férielle Doulain-Zouari, Lamya Gargash, Moataz Nasr, Sarah Almehairi, and Nicène Kossentini—hailing from the UAE, Tunisia, and Egypt. These artists will present their interpretations of “Awakenings” through various media, including sculptures and audio-visual installations, adding a rich and dynamic layer to the exhibition.
As always, the exhibition will culminate in the awarding of the prestigious Richard Mille Art Prize in December. This prize, eagerly anticipated each year, recognizes the most compelling work of the edition, selected by a distinguished jury that includes H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Guilhem André, Simon Njami, Nujoom Alghanem, and Maya Allison.
With its expanded geographical focus and the high caliber of artistic talent on display, the Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here 2024 is set to be a highlight of the cultural calendar, offering an extraordinary platform for regional and local artists to showcase their talent and creativity.
